The Legal Reality: You Don’t Own Your AI Conversations
When you use ChatGPT, Claude, or any cloud AI, you’re entering a service agreement. Here’s what you’re actually agreeing to:
OpenAI (ChatGPT)
From their Terms of Use (as of Feb 2026):
Content Ownership:
As between you and OpenAI, and to the extent permitted by applicable law, you own your inputs. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, OpenAI assigns to you all its right, title and interest in and to output.
